I had never heard of this author, but you've left me curious. The comment on reading Virgínia Woolf made me smile. Is culture in England very much centred in London? Here, most of the big exhibitions and shows happen in Rio or São Paulo (our most cosmopolitan city).

That's very true of London as well. There are so many different galleries and museums that everything seems to gravitate there. It's impossible see to everything on offer. Whereas each of our other major cities has its own public museum and gallery, showing perhaps three or four different exhibitions a year on a much smaller scale.

Which, of course, makes it all difficult for people on a low income.

It does! The train prices from the north of England to London are ridiculous. And hotel prices in London have increased a lot since the pandemic too. It's become unaffordable for many people I think. Which is why I think we should be investing a lot more in getting art exhibitions, theatre, and even independent films, out of London and into the regions.

I love Diary of Provincial Lady. Query, why is the book not better known?

This made me smile Kate! I’m so glad to find someone else who loves it, it should definitely be better known. I hadn’t heard of it myself until I received it as a surprise gift. It deserves a much bigger audience, I laughed so much while I was reading it and there’s such a lot going on beneath the surface too.
