I'm in awe of Dorothy Richardson's writing, she really does make you feel as Miriam does. I hope you get to chance to read some Gissing too, he was a real surprise for me this year - I've put a couple of his books on my list for 2025!
Hey, this was cool. So much material, and such interesting thinking about it. I really enjoyed reading it. So much so, I subscribed (I really try to be judicious in my subscriptions, lest overwhelm causes my TBR pile to topple).
Thank you so much Nicolas, that is lovely to hear! I know the feeling about toppling TBR piles, I've just been looking at all the books I hoped to read by the end of the year. Its a constant problem.
I think the thing about the TBR pile is probably to stay cool with it...so if the year ends (I mean, clearly the year will end...) and there are some titles still waiting for your gaze, well hey that's just how it goes...they're wait for us patiently until the moment is right for them in 2025...or 26...
I couldn't read all those excerpts from Richardson's book and not have a strong emotional response to them. I felt so angry and upset. It seems like a great book, but I could only read it once I felt ready for it.
I have to wait for the right moment to read her books too. They are very immersive and I feel as though I am experiencing everything with her. She is fast becoming one of my favourite authors though!
Gosh, I felt like I was with Miriam on her bike when she couldn't stop; very vivid writing. And I really need to read Gissing!

Hey, you're welcome.

That’s very true. There are books on my shelves that have been waiting very patiently but I’m sure I will get to them when the time is right.

Its a strange relationship. You suffer with the characters, but you want to keep on reading.
A beautiful post Natalie - thank you!
Thanks so much for this lovely comment Tash
